Using Unity for 4th challenge
Unity has recently been made available for free for privates and hobby developers. I have long wanted to try it out, but haven't had an excuse so to speak. However, the fourth challenge in my Experimental Gameplay course requires us to make a game that easily can be run from the net. I have tried the Unity web player a couple of times and it seems awesome! I’ve begun the tutorial step while trying to come up with my take on an experimental climate game using abstract shapes as the fourth challenge more or less dictates.
I got the first prototype/toy done, which can be played with here.
It was a triumph…
It was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCES. So says the Portal ending song and so say I after coming home from Nordic Game Jam 09 and our game, Sheeped Away, getting the jury's award. Again this year it was an exciting event and with more games than ever before that keeps getting better. It's amazing what can be accomplished in "24 hours", since Friday was used to go from idea to concept and there's hardly no time Sunday with a deadline at 3pm leaving only Saturday to get from A-Z. Winning the award means that we are going to a game event in Göteborg this summer. Hopefully more information about this will come my way soon. Right now, Sheeped Away uses four Xbox 360 controllers and we have been talking about making a keyboard alternative, since many people we know don't own a 360 controller. In the next couple of days I'll have some more information on the game posted and soon a downloadable version. Hopefully it will also in near future be available on the Nordic Game Jam page. When that happens be sure to check out some of the other games that I found very interesting: Fur Cry, Grow My Head, and In One Piece.

To Nordic Game Jam 2009
Again this year I'm attending Nordic Game Jam (NGJ) at ITU. Last year was a very successful experience, with my group and our game Mass Salvation, which was created under the topic taboo. I'm looking forward to yet another successful event. Hopefully I'll have some time to post some updates during the event.
Mass Salvation: Move your messiah around to capture souls before judgement day! Attract the crowd, persuade your followers to join your religion, and capture followers from the other religions. More information can be found at the NGJ 08 along with video and imagery. Download Mass Salvation.

Train Wreck handed in
Racing against the deadline with a report on the sideline we (my group and I) handed in Train Wreck a week ago. The results looks promising even though there was no time left to polish and tweak the game. Hopefully we can find the time to get together during our vacation and catch up on the loose ends. At some point I will put up a downloadable version of the game. So for now a couple of appetizers will have to do :)
