Berserker Breakfast – Global/Nordic Game Jam 2010
The Global/Nordic Game Jam has ended and as usual the experience has been great. A lot more people participated this year, which also meant that a lot more games were created. Theme global theme was "deception" and the local contraints was either to have a monkey, donkey, or key in the game. Friday night we got settled on a game idea - vikings eating mushrooms. This meant that we on Saturday could begin implementation. There was a bit more stress Sunday with the deadline fast approaching, compared to the other two years I've participated. We hadn't had time to play the game except once during Sunday and even after that huge modifications were made. However, I'm quite pleased with the final result taking the time into account. There is of cause still a lot of stuff we'd like to do and who knows, maybe we will ;)

Award show
At long last some video from the award show at Gotland have been released. Follow the link to a direct stream of the award show, here.
Gotland Game Awards 2009
It has been quite a while since my last post. In the meantime I have been to Gotland Game Awards (GGA) as part of the prize we got from the Nordic Game Jam (NGJ). At GGA we were so fortunate to receive another prize namely the Best Game of NGJ with our game Sheeped Away. Below I have uploaded some pictures from the award show where we receive the award.

All in all it was a great trip. Gotland University has an amazing game programme, which focus on programming, designing, and visuals. From my experience they also push the game productions that one step further, which includes publishing. This meant that every game showcased were very polished and combined with their amazing booths and advertisement gave the feeling of professionalism. During the award show it turned out that Ernest Adams, who was presenting one of the awards, was also going to teach at the university part-time. GGA is definitely something I would like to come back to next year.
Playtesting Sheeped Away
We only got to do one play through of Sheeped Away at the Nordic/Global Game Jam 09 before the submission deadline. I recorded a small video (found below). I was really great to hear the players communicate to each other during play as it was one of the things that we'd strived for with the design. The video also shows some nice teamplay with both slowing and blocking of opponents as well as teammates hovering over sheeps of opposite colour; buying time until the teammate arives to beam them up.
Download Sheeped Away
Now Sheeped Away has been comitted to the Global Game Jam's list of games and is available for download.

It was a triumph…
It was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCES. So says the Portal ending song and so say I after coming home from Nordic Game Jam 09 and our game, Sheeped Away, getting the jury's award. Again this year it was an exciting event and with more games than ever before that keeps getting better. It's amazing what can be accomplished in "24 hours", since Friday was used to go from idea to concept and there's hardly no time Sunday with a deadline at 3pm leaving only Saturday to get from A-Z. Winning the award means that we are going to a game event in Göteborg this summer. Hopefully more information about this will come my way soon. Right now, Sheeped Away uses four Xbox 360 controllers and we have been talking about making a keyboard alternative, since many people we know don't own a 360 controller. In the next couple of days I'll have some more information on the game posted and soon a downloadable version. Hopefully it will also in near future be available on the Nordic Game Jam page. When that happens be sure to check out some of the other games that I found very interesting: Fur Cry, Grow My Head, and In One Piece.

To Nordic Game Jam 2009
Again this year I'm attending Nordic Game Jam (NGJ) at ITU. Last year was a very successful experience, with my group and our game Mass Salvation, which was created under the topic taboo. I'm looking forward to yet another successful event. Hopefully I'll have some time to post some updates during the event.
Mass Salvation: Move your messiah around to capture souls before judgement day! Attract the crowd, persuade your followers to join your religion, and capture followers from the other religions. More information can be found at the NGJ 08 along with video and imagery. Download Mass Salvation.
